Colour blocking has been hot on the fashion catwalk for what feels like forever. It is finally cool to clash, so, why should we stick to just one bright with make-up?

Eyes and lips are screaming out for a new look to welcome in the summer, and this exciting trend is perfect for those wanting to make an impact with their make-up. Keep your base matte and well-covered, with just a little blush and bronze, and really let the colours pop!

imageLips

imageIt’s time to wave goodbye to the peach pout and gothic lips that dominated over the winter. This look is all about vivid and vibrant shades. The key colours to use here are pink and orange. For babydoll, sugary pink NARS Roman Holiday lipstick (£18.50) is delicious; while for hot orange Yves Saint Laurent's Rouge Pur Couture lipstick (£22.50) in Orange is sizzling.

For this look to really be effective, it is important to make sure your lips and kept in luscious condition. Apply a moisturising lip balm before the colour to create a soft and subtle base. This will allow the colour to sink in and last longer. Patchy colour says more kids colouring book than colour block. Keep inside the lines by always lining your lips to keep lines sharp and neat. This line should be in a slighter lighter shade and should not be clearly visible, but will ensure the shape of your lips looks fantastic.

Eyes

imageSmokey eyes will always have a place in our hearts, but for now, black and grey’s younger, fun-loving relative is in town and ready to party. Relive the 80’s with electric blue, create envy everywhere with emerald green, or be a Barbie girl with pink. The choice, and the rainbow, is yours. Layer the colour for a stronger look, and complete with a coat of black mascara and a thin line with a discreet feline flick to really draw attention. If you don’t already have one, it may be time to invest in a eyeshadow primer, such as Benefit’s Lemonaid (£16.50), to avoid any fading.

imageUrban Decay are fantastic for their colour palettes, and a particular favourite is Ammo Palette (£25), containing a selection of shades to experiment with. Whilst Barry M’s imagedazzle dust (£4.50) will really make your eyes burst! For those of you who are slightly anxious about embracing the complete trend, a line of colour along the lash line is a step in the right direction, with Barry M also offering a brilliant range of colours.

Nails

imageEver stare at your collection of nail polish, struggling to decide which shade to wear? With this trend, there is no need to stop at just one colour. Ten nails are the perfect canvas for experimenting with ten different colours. Shape and buff your nails first, to keep the colour looking neat and clean.

The look takes the dominant aspect of fashion and translates it to a fun make-up look. There’s just one rule – the brighter the better! And for a really sunny bright shade why not go for O.P.I's Need Sunglasses (£10.50)?
