Although there are many ways to look glamorous, the traditional Hollywood starlet style oozes glamour -- neutral eyes with emphasised lashes, thick eyeliner on the upper lash and red lips. You don't need to be a Marilyn Monroe lookalike to pull this look off as it suits everyone. All you need are the below makeup products, full wavy hair, oh and somewhere glamorous to go!

Face

Matt or radiant foundation

Go for a medium to full-coverage foundation preferably with a matt finish such as Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation (RRP £25). If you have dry skin, choose a radiant finish foundation such as Bobbi Brown's Luminous Moisturising Foundation (RRP £28). Both of these foundations come in a range of colours for all skin tones. Loose powders work well to help matify your skin and give all foundations, including dewy, a matt finish. Read our article on foundations for further information on foundation types.

Eyes

Eyeshadow

Use a shimmery beige, silver, cream, soft pink or light brown powder eyeshadow across the whole of your eyelid and brow bone. Next apply the darker colour from the far outer corner of your eyelids around the crease of your eyelid to about midway, forming a V shape and blend the two colours together to create contrast and definition. Rimmel's Colour Rush Eyeshadow Quad in Smokey Brun (RRP £4.49) works perfectly for this look. Read our article on applying eyeshadow for some application tips.

Liquid Eyeliner

Next apply a black liquid liner to your upper eyelid, you want to start mid-way on the lash line keeping the colour close to your lashes. Repeat the line to thicken and add deeper colour to it. It is optional whether or not you want to add a little flick at the outer edge of the line. You can buy separate liquid liner brushes which ease application, or we would recommend purchasing a liquid liner which comes with a thin tipped, soft brush. M.A.C's Penultimate Eye Liner (£14) is great for creating thick, bold, black lines, perfect for this chic look.

Mascara

You can use a dramatic look mascara such as Lancome Hypnose (RRP £20) to build volume but may want to use false half-lashes on the outer corners of your upper eyelashes for some extra length. False eyelashes are optional, but can even be used instead of mascara if you go for full, dramatic look lashes.  They really do add something special to the eyes for the ultimate sexy sweep. False lashes can be purchased from most pharmacies such as Boots, and at beauty counters from makeup brands such as M.A.C.

Lips

Full-coverage red lips

Red lips are hot at the moment, particularly in full-coverage matt finishes. For this look however, choose something with shine too, such as Clarins Rouge Prodige lipsticks (RRP £16). This lipstick is offers rich gorgeous colour and shine and is exceptionally long-lasting yet comfortable. It also comes in a gorgeous gold case. We particularly love the Red Prodige colour, which suits most skin tones; while pale skins suit reds with cool undertones, darker skins look great in warmer red shades such as those with orange or brown undertones.

Before applying the lipstick, be sure to line your lips with a soft red lipliner, not only to give the outline shape but also to work as a base for your lipstick and help it to stay on for longer. Our article on Types of Lipstick has some advice on choosing and applying lipstick and lipliner.

Blusher

Use a powder blusher for your cheeks in a red shade which complements your lipstick. Blusher should be applied to your cheekbones using a blusher brush. Using the brush, apply the colour to the outer side of your cheekbone in a clockwise semi-circle.  To add contour and light to your cheekbone, you need to highlight and shade it by applying more blusher to the bottom right of your cheekbone (or of the semi circle) by pressing the powder brush onto your cheek. The colour  will then be lighter on the top of your cheekbone. Powder blushers give great depth and dimension.

Eyebrows

Apply a eyebrow powder or pencil to your eyebrows to add shape and colour to them, and complete your makeup look. See our article on shaping and defining eyebrows for further eyebrow makeup information.

This is a great evening makeup look and a real show stopper. So, what are you waiting for? Find an excuse to glam up!
