Lula Braithwaite - Talks Natural Beauty
Natural beauty expert Lula Braithwaite reveals why she loves mineral make-up and tells us what inspired her to set up the award-winning organic apothecary website LoveLula.com.
What attracted you to pursue a career in the natural cosmetics industry?
I trained as a naturopath and am passionate about the benefits of natural skincare and ingredients to help your skin stay healthy and beautiful.
When did you first discover mineral make-up?
Ten years ago when a beauty therapist friend introduced me to it.
What do you love about mineral make-up?
How it makes skin look and feel; a flawless finish, great coverage and you don't even feel like you're wearing make-up. Plus it's excellent for problem skin types especially oily or acne prone skins.
Why is mineral make-up better than regular cosmetics? What are the benefits?
With mineral make-up you get pure colour and nothing else, whilst a regular foundation contains oils and preservatives, which can upset the balance in your skin. A lot of people find skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis or acne clear up when they start to use mineral make-up.
What are your favourite products?
Our LoveLula favourites are the Bare Escentuals bareMinerals foundations. They are SPF15 so help to protect your skin whilst making it look flawless.
What three products should every make-up artist always carry in their make-up bag?
1. Egyptian Magic - A perfect multi-purpose balm. It can be used on dry skin & lips and can be used to remove make-up gently and effectively.
2. Bare Escentuals Foundation - It looks like powder but glides on like a cream. Heals and nourishes skin whilst covering blemishes and uneven skin tone.
3. Madara Moon Flower Tinted Moisturiser - It transforms even the dullest complexions into radiant goddesses!
How would you describe LoveLula?
A gold mine of organic beauty care and information for green goddesses everywhere.
Why is a natural lifestyle important?
For a long & healthy life!
How can our readers tell the difference between natural, organic products and regular cosmetics?
They should be looking at the ingredients on the back of the bottle and can learn to look out for nasties such as; sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens and petrochemicals. Some products may say they are 'natural' but for a product to claim it is 'natural' it only needs to have a small percentage of 'natural' ingredients in it. Customers can trust that we only stock products that meet our own specific criteria.
What is your personal daily beauty routine?
I am using Nude Cleansing Oil everyday, which is massaged into the skin and removed with water, followed by a spritz of Pukka Rosewater and OSKIA's Day Cream. At night I use OSKIA's Bedtime Beauty Boost. My skin is a lot drier than it used to be so I have to use products that offer added moisturisation and nourishment.
What inspired you to start LoveLula.com?
A love of natural products and a passionate belief that they needed a retail platform, which showed how beautiful and effective natural cosmetics are.
What is the best thing about your job?
It's different everyday and always calls me to be creative.
What is your best beauty tip?
Always remove your make-up at night. Plus, less is more... we love natural beauty!
Using mineral make-up, what tips can you give to our readers to get a beach-ready look?
Use bronzer on the areas of your face that naturally catch the sun - temples, cheekbones and jaw line, to create a sun kissed look. Keep the rest of your make-up to a minimum. A bit of mascara and nude lip gloss will look perfect for the beach.
What is your proudest achievement with LoveLula so far?
