Smashbox has done it again, with another cosmetic collection to warm up your make-up palette in time for spring. The In Bloom Spring 2011 range boasts soft and feminine shades to boost your mood and brighten your look.

The spring catwalk has been rife with make-up trends that are natural and easy-to-wear, and Smashbox has not strayed far from the experts’ interpretations. In Bloom offers a product for each aspect of the face, all tailored towards an understated overall look and packaged in colourful boxing.

Enhance a naturally flushed cheek, or create one, with the Cream Cheek Duo (£23). Choose Blushing (dark pink) or Peony (rose) depending on your complexion; generally speaking, the paler your skin the lighter your cheek colour should be, so as to prevent Aunt Sally replications. The cream base ensures that the product can be applied to the skin easily and blended smoothly. It is also the perfect consistency for dryer skin types; faces prone to oiliness or breakouts should steer clear from cream-based products and opt for powders.

Make your peepers ‘pop’ with In Bloom’s eyeshadow palette (£44), with ten shades it's ideal for both day and night-wear; a combination of intense, earthy mattes and light, illuminating shimmers will cater to the need of every shadow wearer. Shimmery Copper and Warm Taupe will accentuate hazel or green eyes, Soft Orchid will work for blue, while brown eyes can handle Moss or Iris Blue. After applying a base colour, use the complementing darker duo shade to line the socket and an illuminating lighter shade, such as Bone, to highlight the brow line.

Line and define eyes with the all-new Soft Focus Powder Eyeliner (£19.50), creating a softer, less defined finish than the liquid liners we’ve become accustomed to and still haven’t entirely mastered. Choose from deep brown or charcoal grey; colours which also serve to avoid the harsh results of black liner.

Extending on Smashbox’s range of Limitless Longwear Lipgloss (£19), the make-up moguls have released an additional two colours fresh for the season. Endless Kiss (coral) and Timeless (soft pink) promise shine that stays put for six hours and a handy SPF 15, so that you can sport the gloss and protect your lips simultaneously. Line lips before application with a similar coloured outline of the base colour to prevent bleeding, administer the lip stain and coat with a sweep of Limitless gloss.

To finalise your look, the collection’s Artificial Light Powder (£18) delivers a natural glow to the key areas: that of the brow bones, cheekbones, nose shaft and inner eye corners. The translucent powder, which comes in Shimmery Nude, has light reflecting particles which add an eye-catching luminescence and dewy finish to the skin’s surface.

Smashbox offers a step-to-step and product-by-product guide to achieving three spring-inspired looks, which all make use of the new In Bloom collection. The ivory skin, pinked cheeks and red rosebud pout of Blossom smacks of the immaculate and flawless palors during the reign of Mary Antoinette. Grey Glam promotes statement evening eyes and glossy lips, with toned down facial surroundings. Alternatively, Petal flirts with the colour palette, tempting nude lips with violet framed eyes. Whichever may be the look for you, be assured that you will reign supreme as spring’s carnival queen this March.
