Dainty Doll - Loose Mineral Powder Foundation

Dainty%20doll

Introduction

Dainty Doll is a make-up range designed by Nicola Roberts (Girls Aloud). All products in this range are specifically tailored for women with paler skin. I tried shade 003 ‘Now That I’ve Found You’.

Science

This mineral foundation contains essential SPF 18 sun-protection, vitamin E and is rich in anti-oxidents too, fab! Mineral foundation is appropriate for every skin type, including those with very oily or sensitive dry skin.

Trial

I’ll admit, I get a little scared of powder/mineral foundations. I hate the look of build up powder.  However, fear not, this foundation is SO finely milled, it doesn't do that. For those of you who are unsure how to apply a mineral foundation, simply buff it into the skin with a brush (this one even comes with a built in brush).

One of the only negative points about this foundation is that it is rather difficult to tell if you have applied it evenly until it has settled. However, with practise, this becomes easier to judge.

Once settled, the coverage is SO natural and lightweight, that it doesn’t look powdery or cakey whatsoever. I felt like I wasn’t wearing a foundation, and just had a really lovely radiant complexion.  I love that it is super easy to build up coverage for a more immaculate look, and after about two applications, gave great coverage. My skin is rather oily so using this product also made it easy to manage shine. You could even wear it as a very natural finish, or even just as a powder to cover up shine throughout the day.

The lasting power was okay. I felt the need to top up after about 6 or 7 hours after my first application.

I tried shade 003 ‘Now that I’ve Found You’ which was one of the darker ones (My skin tone isn’t too pale). This was a perfect match to my skin tone, and looked very natural. The lightest shade (001), is VERY pale, almost white in fact, so those of you who have a very light skin tone will be pleased to hear about that.

Price

£19. I felt this was a little dear considering you don’t actually get that much in the tube. I would be happy to pay between £12 and £15.

Packaging

This loose mineral foundation comes in a round plastic tube, the packaging is matt black with gold writing, which looks nice and sophisticated.  I felt the applicator was the only thing that really let this product down. There is a built in brush, which normally would have been a great idea. It means none of the mess you would get if the loose powder came in a pot. It also means it’s great to chuck in your handbag for on-the-go top-ups! However, the brush wasn’t the best quality, yes it’s very soft, but the bristles tended to stray out onto my face the first few times I used the brush. The powder itself comes out of a little hole in the top of the brush, which is kind of hard to get out, I resorted to some vigorous shaking.

Verdict

I have never been particularly swayed by powder/mineral foundation before. I was always a liquid girl. But with Dainty Doll Loose Mineral Powder Foundation I can make an exception. I love it, I would recommend it to anyone. The only problems I had were with the applicator, but the product itself makes up for this. Thumbs up!
