The Body Shop - Nature's Minerals Foundation
With make-up artists and make-up addicts raving that mineral foundation is the way forward, minerals are a must-have in your make-up bag and perfect for the summer. Trying to find one which gives as good a coverage and finish as your regular foundation can be a challenge, but The Body Shop's Nature's Minerals Foundation could be justthe answer.
The Body Shop's website states that the product is best for those who want to 'Achieve a healthy, radiant complexion with ultra-fine minerals that blend evenly to protect skin and reduce redness and imperfections.'
The featherlight, mineral powder, The Body Shop claims, will give you a radiant, natural looking finish that can be built up to give you extra coverage and is suitable for sensitive skin. The absorbent minerals of Kaolin and Mediterranean clay provide long lasting coverage while some of its other special ingredients have light-defusing properties which will help to disguise fine lines and pores. All this while containing an SPF 25 to protect skin from the sun and it won't clog your pores. So, how did it trial in comparison to the Body Shop's claims...?
Being so light I used a powder brush to apply it and, be warned, this can be messy for a first timer and it can be a little tricky to get just the right amount on your brush. Once I had mastered the technique I found the coverage to be very even and I didn't even really feel like I was wearing foundation at all; that being said, I am not sure if it's a positive or negative. The coverage was even, but very light and although it evened my skin tone it didn't do much to conceal my blemishes.
Although coverage can be built up, I would think that a lot of product would have to be used to achieve a medium coverage and, not being a fan of wearing lots of make-up, I didn't think it would be best for me to keep applying.
I also have quite dry skin but was pleased to find the mineral foundation very nourishing which didn't dry out my skin further, or leave me with little dry patches which I find some foundations do. The subtle glow it gave my skin was also a bonus. Although this foundation is suitable for all skin types and would work well on dry, normal, sensitive and cobination skin-types, I don't think that it would provide enough shine control for an oily skin-type.
The product did have good staying power and even after a 9 hour day at work I could still see that I had coverage and a more even skin tone.
The packing is quite impressive. A small plastic sifter jar with a black shimmery lid gives the product a little bit of personality and makes it stand out on the shelf. There are also instructions alongside the seal demonstrating how to use the sifter jar if your a first timer. I do think that the mesh sifter enables an even coverage as the mesh helped to sift the product so it wasn't clumpy on application.
£16 seems quite a lot to me, but if you are looking for a light coverage product for the natural made up look, then this is the product for you.

Overall I was impressed with the product as it is exactly what I look for in a foundation - light, natural long-lasting coverage which is good for the skin and doesn't feel drying. It provided me with light coverage and still gave me a glow, although I will need to use a good concealer with it for any bad skin days.
